Project Summary

A study is being conducted to determine the short (10 years) and long-term (30 years) requirements at the Thousand Islands Bridge and to develop a long-term plan and implementation strategy.  It will also determine the feasibility of reducing future crossing delays at the Thousand Islands Bridge.

The focus of the Study will be:

  • To provide a planning level analysis of the infrastructure and operational capacity;

  • To identify general social, economic, environmental and transportation issues that must be addressed in the development of future plans;

  • To determine, if, and when, the capacity of the existing facilities will be exceeded;

  • To identify alternatives for resolving current issues and meeting future requirements including capital investments and/or changes in policies, processes and procedures;

  • To conduct a planning level analyze of alternatives from an engineering, social, economic, funding and environmental perspective and identify possible local, regional and national impacts;

  • To identify the planning level estimated costs associated with each alternative and identify possible means of financing; and

  • To identify and evaluate implementation issues provincial and state requirements necessary for implementation and a timetable for accomplishment.
